Bonded Assembly Technician

The Bonded Assembly Technician will perform composite layup, metal bond layup, composite and structural assembly,sheet metal forming, and weight and balance or autoclave operations

Duties & Responsibilities
    \n
  • Makes simple pattern layouts on flat or other metal stock
  • \n
  • Performs drilling, reaming, counter sinking, counter boring, tapping, routing and riveting of detail parts to be used in bonded rotor blades and on final bonded rotor blades usingspecified tooling.
  • \n
  • Fills and fairs contour surfaces of rotor blades to within .010" tolerances.
  • \n
  • Prepares metal for bonding and may apply adhesive to parts and sub-assemblies. Sets up andoperates liquid adhesive spray, brush and roller coat equipment to prepare parts for metal bonding.
  • \n
  • Fits, install and assembles parts and honeycomb core to structural member, bonding materials, and other details. May patch, replace and rework such assemblies in order to conform to specifications
  • \n
  • Assembles and installs structures involving drilling, reaming and/or riveting, and the installation of various fasteners to specifications including torque operations onstructural assemblies using specified tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  • \n
  • Performs all operations necessary in the location,installation,assembly and integral mating ofmajor structural sub- assemblies and assemblies, working with or without specialized tooling and jigs.
  • \n
  • Performs operations necessary to aerodynamically balance helicopter rotor blades to customer specifications and Quality Control standards.
  • \n
  • After adjusting fixture with master blade, positions blade into weight and balance fixtures, reads two levels for span and chord-wise movement in adjusting for balance, and reads micrometer to closeness of plus or minus.00011 an inch in measuring sweep.
  • \n
  • Records temperature readings (before and after balancing), weight, and other pertinent information about blade. May also use scale type fixtures and calculator to check weight and balance.

  • Regulates, operates and maintains curing equipment.
  • \n
  • Positions vacuum bagged parts or assemblies in the autoclave by locating and positioning thermocouples and recording and attaching vacuum lines and checking to determine that proper vacuum ismaintained.

  • Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Annual baseline hearing test is required.
  • \n
  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • \n
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by safety standards.
  • \n
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • \n
  • Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • \n
  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles.
  • \n
  • Noise level is usually loud.
  • \n
  • Hearing protection is required.
  • \n
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
  • \n
  • Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas.

Skills & Qualifications
    \n
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • \n
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • \n
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • \n
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • \n
  • Ability to perform basic math functions with whole numbers and decimals.
  • \n
This is a generic job posting for a Bonded Assembly Technician. Depending on the candidate's skills, qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level, intermediate (II) level or expert (III) level job and pay scale.

Hourly rate: $19.00 - $22.00/hour
