Larson Steel Products is hiring an entry level General Laborer for first Shift at our Bedford Park location. We also have openings in our Joliet location.

General Laborer Job Description

Entry Level, starting Pay at $20/hour. Insurance offered after 90-day probation period. Hiring for First Shift at our Joliet location. Flexibility with hours and location required. Overtime and Saturdays often required and paid at time and a half. Paid training and forklift certification available upon hire.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport materials (e.g., steel, tools, equipment, products, debris) to and from work areas using various methods, including by hand, with dollies, or pallet jacks.

Site Preparation & Cleanup: Prepare work areas by clearing debris, setting up safety barriers, and organizing tools and materials. Regularly clean and maintain work areas, ensuring they are free of hazards and clutter.

Assisting Skilled Trades: Provide support to other employees as needed, which may include holding materials, fetching tools, or assisting with basic tasks.

Equipment Operation (Basic): Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, such as drills, saws, grinders, hammers, shovels, and rakes. May be trained to operate more complex equipment like forklifts or Bobcats, depending on the role and company.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Identify and report potential safety hazards to supervisors.

Physical Demands: Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and according to specifications. Communicate effectively about progress, issues, and needs.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management to meet operational needs.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not always required.
• Driver's License required.
• Experience: Previous experience in a similar manual labor role, construction, warehouse, or general industry is a plus, but entry-level candidates are often considered.
• Physical Ability: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (typically 50+ pounds) frequently, perform repetitive tasks, and work in various weather conditions.
• Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
• Safety Consciousness: Understanding of basic safety principles and a commitment to following safety protocols.
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Communication: Basic communication skills to understand instructions and communicate with colleagues.
• Tools: Familiarity with basic hand tools is a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, often in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.).
• Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and other environmental elements is common.
• Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions for extended periods.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.
