Job Description
Shadows are assigned to individual campers with special needs, with the primary responsibility of supervising and engaging them in camp activities. They work closely with Senior and Junior Counselors within their tribe, under the supervision of the Inclusion Director. This Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt position does not offer benefits and is an Equal Opportunity Employment opportunity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensure the health and safety of campers during on-site activities and off-campus field trips.
· Facilitate individual and group growth experiences.
· Act as a positive role model, emphasizing Jewish values.
· Provide assistance and accommodations to assigned campers.
· Collaborate on individualized support plans with the Inclusion Director.
· Maintain communication with campers' families and caregivers.
· Implement behavior management strategies and techniques.
· Identify and support skill development opportunities.
· Participate in inclusion initiatives and training.
· Be prepared to respond to emergencies involving assigned campers.
· Maintain accurate documentation of camper progress and incidents.
· Advocate for inclusion within the camp community.
· Adhere to schedules and perform assigned duties.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
· High School diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old.
· Ability to cooperate effectively with others.
· Proficient in supervising campers.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Capable of executing daily and special programs.
· Previous experience working with children preferred.
· Demonstrates enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
· Dependable with excellent communication skills.
· Presents professionally in appearance, manner, and communication.
· Exhibits an attitude conducive to harmonious cooperation with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
It is expected the Day Camp Shadow will be a team player as part of the JCC Camp Staff. He/she is expected to be aware of the JCC Mission Statement and work within the frameworks of that mission. Responsibilities of the job may be changed as the needs of the JCC, camper and/or community change.
