Description:

The Psychiatry Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive mental health care under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist. This role includes psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and patient education. The PA collaborates with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including history, mental status examination, and risk assessment.
• Diagnose psychiatric conditions in accordance with DSM-5 criteria.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe, adjust, and manage psychotropic medications in collaboration with supervising psychiatrist.
• Provide supportive counseling and psychoeducation to patients and families.
• Monitor treatment response, side effects, and overall progress.
• Order and interpret relevant laboratory tests or diagnostic studies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (therapists, case managers, primary care providers, social workers).
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Participate case conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities.
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations governing psychiatric care and prescribing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NCCPA certification and state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
• DEA registration with prescribing authority for controlled substances.
• Prior experience in psychiatry or behavioral health strongly preferred (inpatient, outpatient, or consult-liaison).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Medical office and exam room settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to clinic. Frequent contact with variety of people.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting. Requires ability to help transfer patient. Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and tense patients. Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
